Why families choose us

Supported living should still feel personal, familiar and respectful

Moving into Supported Independent Living can be a significant change for a participant and the people close to them. The quality of support matters, but so does the feeling of the home itself. Multibility Care takes time to understand routines, communication preferences, household expectations, cultural considerations, relationships and the level of assistance needed throughout the day. The aim is to create dependable support around the participant without making everyday life feel institutional.

Your routine still belongs to you

SIL support can involve many everyday activities, but support workers should not automatically take control of the household. Participants can remain involved in decisions about meals, routines, activities, personal preferences and how assistance is delivered. Where appropriate, support can include prompting or skill building instead of completing every task for the participant.

Consistency helps a house become a home

Knowing who is providing support, what the normal routine looks like and how preferences are communicated can make everyday life feel more settled. We aim for clear communication and suitable worker matching so participants can build familiarity with the people supporting them while still having a voice when something is not working well.

Local & area support

Supported Independent Living across the Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast includes busy coastal communities, residential suburbs and quieter hinterland areas, giving participants different options for how they may want everyday life to feel. SIL planning can consider access to shops, appointments, family, community activities and other services alongside the support required inside the home.

A participant may want to stay connected with activities around Maroochydore and Sunshine Plaza, enjoy the Mooloolaba foreshore, access community life around Caloundra markets, remain close to Noosa National Park or live further inland around Nambour, Maleny or Mapleton. Even familiar coastal views towards Bribie Island can form part of the local environment people value. The right location depends on the participant, their support needs and what matters in ordinary daily life.

Location affects more than the address. Transport, family contact, appointments, community participation and access to familiar services can all influence whether a potential SIL arrangement feels practical long term.

Everyday SIL support built around how you want to live at home

Supported Independent Living can involve assistance across many parts of the day, but the purpose is not simply to complete a list of household tasks. Good SIL support looks at what the participant needs help with now, what they may want to learn, which routines matter to them and how the home can remain comfortable, predictable and personal.

  • 01

    Personal Care & Daily Living

Daily living support can assist with personal routines while protecting privacy, dignity and the participant's ability to remain involved in their own care.

    • Support with suitable morning and evening routines
    • Assistance based on individual personal care needs
    • Encouragement to complete parts of routines independently where appropriate
  • 02

    Meal Planning & Cooking

Meals can be an important part of independence, health and household routine. Support can be adjusted depending on whether the participant needs direct assistance or wants to build cooking skills.

    • Plan meals around preferences and suitable routines
    • Shop for ingredients and prepare food safely
    • Practise cooking skills at an individual pace
  • 03

    Household Tasks & Maintenance

Keeping the home comfortable may involve shared routines, direct assistance and opportunities for the participant to practise household skills they would like to develop.

    • Support with cleaning, laundry and household organisation
    • Help maintain safe and comfortable everyday spaces
    • Build confidence taking part in suitable household tasks
  • 04

    Social & Community Connection

Home life and community life should connect. SIL support can help participants maintain relationships, attend activities and stay involved in familiar places outside the home.

    • Maintain important friendships and community connections
    • Attend suitable activities, appointments and social events
    • Build confidence moving between home and community routines
  • 05

    Skill Building & Independence

Everyday life at home creates natural opportunities to practise practical skills, make decisions and gradually take on more responsibility where that suits the participant.

    • Practise household and personal routines in real situations
    • Build confidence with planning and everyday decisions
    • Increase independence at a realistic individual pace
  • 06

    24/7 Support & Overnight Care

Some SIL arrangements include support across the full day and overnight period, depending on the participant's assessed needs, funding and agreed support model.

    • Planned support across daytime and evening routines
    • Overnight assistance where included in the support arrangement
    • Clear routines for responding when additional help is needed

Home comes first

Supported living should still feel like your own everyday life

A SIL arrangement may involve significant support, but that should not remove the small choices that make a home personal. What time you start your day, what meals you enjoy, who you spend time with, what activities you choose and how you use your own space can all matter. We aim to keep those ordinary decisions visible while delivering the assistance required for safety, wellbeing and daily living.

  • Your routines and preferences remain part of planning.
  • Support can encourage independence instead of automatically taking over.
  • Household compatibility matters in shared arrangements.
  • Support can adjust as skills, confidence and circumstances change.
Questions answered

Frequently Asked Questions

Practical answers for participants, families and referrers who are exploring Supported Independent Living with Multibility Care on the Sunshine Coast.

Supported Independent Living, commonly called SIL, is support for eligible NDIS participants who need assistance with everyday tasks while living in their own or a shared home. Support can include personal care, household routines, meals, community connection, skill building and overnight assistance depending on individual needs and the funded support arrangement. SIL is the support delivered in the home rather than the physical property itself.

SIL needs to be considered appropriate for the participant's disability-related support needs and included within the relevant NDIS funding arrangements. The planning process may involve information about current support needs, daily living assistance and the type of living arrangement being considered. If you are unsure what your plan currently includes, our team can discuss the information you have and explain what needs to be clarified before SIL services can begin.

Our Sunshine Coast service area includes Caloundra, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Buderim, Nambour, Kawana, Noosa, Noosaville, Coolum, Peregian, Mountain Creek, Sippy Downs, Currimundi, Wurtulla, Warana, Bli Bli, Yandina, Eumundi, Maleny and Mapleton. SIL availability can depend on the participant's needs, suitable living arrangements and current vacancies, so contact us to discuss the area you are considering.

A participant, family member, nominee, Support Coordinator, health professional or other appropriate referrer can contact Multibility Care. We will need enough information to understand the participant's current living situation, support needs, preferred location, relevant funding, daily routines and any timing considerations. From there, we can discuss whether there may be a suitable pathway to explore further.

There is no single start timeframe for SIL. Timing can depend on NDIS funding, the participant's support needs, suitable property or household availability, compatibility in shared arrangements and how much transition planning is required. Some moves need more preparation than others. Once the relevant information is available, we can explain the practical steps involved and discuss realistic timing.

SIL is commonly delivered in shared living arrangements, but the right model depends on individual support needs, funding and available options. Shared arrangements also require consideration of household compatibility, routines and how supports will operate between residents. If you are exploring SIL, we can discuss what type of living arrangement you are considering and the practical factors that may need to be reviewed.

Yes. Choosing where to live and who will provide support is a significant decision. Participants and the people supporting them should have an opportunity to ask practical questions about routines, staffing, household expectations, compatibility and the transition process. Where a particular living arrangement is being considered, available visit or introduction options can be discussed before a final decision is made.
