Why families choose us

Good community support starts with what the participant actually wants to do

Community Access Support is most useful when it reflects the participant rather than simply filling time. Some people want help reconnecting with hobbies, others want to attend appointments more confidently, explore volunteering, visit local events or gradually become more independent travelling to familiar places. Multibility Care plans support around the person's goals, communication style, interests and preferred pace so participation feels relevant rather than imposed.

You do not need to start with something big

For some participants, community participation may begin with a familiar cafe, local shop, appointment or short outing. Small, predictable experiences can help build confidence before trying new places or more independent activities. Support can move at a pace that feels realistic rather than turning participation into another source of pressure.

The goal can be greater independence over time

Community Access Support does not always need to stay at the same level. Where appropriate, a participant may gradually practise planning an outing, communicating with staff, using transport, managing money or attending familiar activities with less assistance. The level of support can adjust as skills, confidence and preferences develop.

Local & area support

Community Access Support across the Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast offers many different environments for community participation, from busy coastal centres to quieter hinterland towns. A participant may want support to attend an activity in Maroochydore, visit the Mooloolaba foreshore, explore Caloundra markets, spend time around Noosa, attend appointments in Kawana or take part in something closer to home.

Community access can also include ordinary weekly routines such as shopping, meeting friends, visiting family, attending appointments, joining a group or learning the route to a familiar destination. Places such as Sunshine Plaza, Noosa National Park and local community venues may be useful depending on the participant's interests, while areas around Bribie Island and the wider coast provide additional options for suitable outings.

Familiar places can be a good starting point. Confidence often grows more naturally when participants can practise community skills in environments they already know before expanding into something new.

Community support built around interests, confidence and real-life goals

Community access can look very different from one participant to another. The important part is that the activity has a purpose for the person receiving support. That purpose may be social connection, learning a route, building confidence speaking with others, attending an appointment, exploring work experience or simply enjoying more choice in how time outside the home is spent.

  • 01

    Social & Community Participation

Support can help participants stay connected with people, interests and community activities that make everyday life more enjoyable and socially meaningful.

    • Attend suitable social and recreational activities
    • Maintain friendships and familiar community connections
    • Explore new interests at a comfortable pace
  • 02

    Outings & Day Trips

    • Support preparation for new environments and routines
    • Build confidence with communication and workplace expectations

    • Help build familiarity with recurring appointments or venues
How community support gets started

Start with what interests you, then build confidence from there

01
Discover Your Interests

We talk about places you already enjoy, activities you want to try, your current confidence and the goals you want community participation to support.

02
Plan Your Outings

Activities are planned around your schedule, support needs, location, transport arrangements and what you want to achieve from the experience.

03
Meet Your Worker

Where worker matching is required, we consider communication style, interests, experience, availability and the kind of support relationship you prefer.

04
Get Out & Grow

Support begins around agreed activities, with opportunities to practise skills, try new experiences and reduce assistance where greater independence becomes realistic.

Confidence outside the home

Community access can become more independent as familiar skills grow

The level of support needed for an outing today does not have to stay the same forever. A participant may initially want help planning the activity, travelling, communicating and navigating the venue. Over time, familiar routines can create opportunities to take on more of those steps independently. The goal is not to rush that change, but to notice where confidence is developing and adjust support in a way that feels safe and achievable.

  • Start with activities that genuinely interest the participant.
  • Use familiar places to practise practical community skills.
  • Adjust support as confidence and independence develop.
  • Keep participant choice central when planning new experiences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Practical answers for participants, families and referrers considering Community Access Support with Multibility Care on the Sunshine Coast.

Community Access Support helps eligible NDIS participants take part in social, recreational and everyday activities outside the home. Support may involve outings, appointments, community groups, transport assistance, volunteering, skill building or other activities connected with the participant's goals. The activity and level of support should reflect the participant's interests, needs and approved NDIS funding.

Community participation supports are included in some NDIS plans depending on the participant's goals and disability-related support needs. The exact way support is funded depends on the plan and management arrangement. If you are unsure whether your current funding can be used for Community Access Support, contact our team with the relevant plan information and we can discuss what needs to be checked.

Our Sunshine Coast service area includes Caloundra, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Buderim, Nambour, Kawana, Noosa, Noosaville, Coolum, Peregian, Mountain Creek, Sippy Downs, Currimundi, Wurtulla, Warana, Bli Bli, Yandina, Eumundi, Maleny and Mapleton. Participants can contact Multibility Care directly, or an appropriate family member, nominee, Support Coordinator, health professional or other person involved in the participant's support can submit a referral. We will need enough information to understand the participant's location, interests, goals, preferred activities, support requirements and relevant NDIS funding before planning the next steps.

Start times can vary depending on participant location, preferred schedule, support needs, funding information and suitable worker availability. Some arrangements may be straightforward while others require more planning or careful matching. Once we understand the request, we can explain the practical steps required before the first community activity or outing is arranged.

Community participation can be delivered in different ways depending on the participant's goals, funding, support needs and available service arrangements. Some participants benefit from one-to-one support, while others may enjoy suitable group activities. We can discuss what kind of environment is more comfortable and what arrangement best matches the participant's goals.

Yes, where that is a suitable goal for the participant. Community Access Support can create opportunities to practise planning, transport routines, communication, money handling, decision-making and navigating familiar places. The level of assistance can gradually change as confidence grows. The pace should remain realistic for the participant rather than reducing support before they feel ready.
